Running with the inspiration

We posted about Housemartin's inspiration from this window. They took the idea and worked it for a wedding they did. I love their pics of the trial run. It's look so oranic and those candles in the birdcage are as awesome as I thought they would be. Great job. Enjoy the pics!

Florists...I owe you!

I've been hard on florists lately with all my talk of lighting. So I stumbled upon this gem of a florist and had to feature them. I actually shouldn't even call them a florist. They are more of a landscape design company who also does floral work and even deals furniture and lighting. There work is something fantastic! It's something totally different and I love their use of greenery which is probably inspired from their roots in landscaping. Any inspiration that can help us all think outside of the box is great. I'm loving that pink palette. If it were a hamburger I would totally eat it. Ok maybe I'm just hungry since that didn't make any sense. Check out Big Red Sun (PS their web design is stellar)

A Fab Lyndsi Original

We don't often post our own work, but I wanted to give Lyndsi some credit on this stunning arrangement she did for a recent wedding. This was a feature on a place card table. I just love it. Great job Lyndsi! We'll post more from this wedding as the pictures become available.

PS I will be a guest (yay!) at 2 weddings this weekend. Yes 2! And bonus, Lyndsi is a bridesmaid in one. We will certainly post pics on Monday. Have a fab weekend

Adding Interest

This is so lovely. The mix of the hydrangea (hanging!!) with the vintage chandelier is just great. You all know I'm into hanging stuff right now. I love how it looks like pretty little puff balls in this gazebo. But I hope hope hope that these babies have a water source tied up there as well. Hydrangea are known for going limp without water in a flash. Looks like they may be in water soaked foam. This pic comes from knottie Socal Bride, featured on Weddingbee today!

Cool Find

Happy Monday. We had a fab wedding weekend. Congrats to Sue and Stan. What a lovely couple we had the privilege to work with. Stunning wedding!

Here is a cool find. A little pricey, but I'm really into things hanging lately. These are from Uncommon Goods, one of my fave shops. I love the unique shape and colors.

Pot at your event

Thanks knot friends for the pic. Lyndsi and I did something similar for a client once and it was so awesome. She wanted something in between rustic and mansion/historic. We found a great deal on pots from ACmoore and got terracotta markers. This is so easy and so cute. It makes a table look really great and it's a green/functional favor. I really love placecards with escort cards. (One being the ones already placed at a table and the others being the ones guests pick up on the way to the tables). Seems redundant but it's a nice detail that makes tables look pulled together.

Lighting post of the day!

Ok so we haven't been doing the whole "lighting post a day" thing every day. But we like this one so take it in! It comes from photog Jessica Claire. They used a combination of pipe and drape with pink uplighting and I love the accent of orange flowers. It makes it so magical! I love how the room just glows. It's just so pretty and girly. Enjoy.

Finding the right space for all your crazy ideas...I mean fab, of course.

This is what we call "over the top fabness". This means, it's too much, but we still kinda dig it. I like the color scheme and the lucite chairs, but those flowers are way too much. But here is what I wanted to point out that sometimes people overlook. A large amount of these tablescapes that are posted on our blog are modern and full of color or at least portray a clean look. But look at the background in these shoots. It's 99% of the time all plain white. This is tough to recreate if you have a venue that isn't a blank loft. And if you are in the beginning phases of planning an event and you like this sort of modern, color drenched look, choose a white plain space. Once you book your venue, you immediately limit your "look" options. There are ways to tweak some of these ideas to make them work in different venues, but if you're a modern girl like us and love that city chic look, remember that before you book your venue. If you're looking for help in Philly, we can make some suggestions! Kisses....ok maybe just hugs. We don't know you that well yet.

Thinking outside of the vase

I just completely love this look. I have seen it in a few places, but I was waiting to find really beautiful pics of it. Of course the wonderful Housemartin comes through again! I found the first 2 pics in their achives. I absolutely love this look for centerpieces. It is so incredibly beautiful. The contrast between the bark and the flowers is wonderful. I imagine this with levels on a table so the height adds interest. I also found this link where you can purchase these.

One of my favorite publications

I have to give credit to a bride we met last night. She had an amazing catalog of images, pictures, etc that she had been collecting (which you all should be doing!) and many were from this magazine. Grace Ormonde in my opinion is one of the best wedding publications out there. I think they only publish one a year and it's super expensive for a magazine. You can even order back issues as collectibles. The images from this magazine are oustanding. The trick is using them in your regular, non-endless supply of funds for an event-life. Here is a photo that I think provides good inspiration. I always say that you can really achieve high impact if you stay within a color range as opposed to working with contrasting colors. Here they just did very simple arrangements of orange flowers. The consitency is enough high impact. If you're on a budget, stick with one flower/color/look/hue and go nuts with it.

Martha moment

I think this Martha thing may end up being a frequent thing. She inspires me so much and I think she would make a great President of the USA. Think of how pretty our country would be? Ok I am only kidding obviously, but I just can't get enough of her fab ideas and I love to share them and show you how to make them your own in an affordable way. I love a new take on centerpieces whenever possible. These are 2 really good examples of how to make your tables lovely in an affordable way. Renting vases can be pricey from a florist. The picture on the left shows simple cans wrapped in pretty paper and ribbon. So super easy! I would love to get some lovely paper from Paper-Source and deck them out! The pic on the right I also just love. How great would that be for a winter wedding where you didn't want to go overboard with the holiday stuff but have that touch of festive flare. The container store has great shiny white boxes just like these! I also really love how they tied in the favor on the plate with the flowers.

Cans! It's only cans!

Remember the part of that movie Speed where Keanu Reeves yells that they didn't hit a baby only a cart of cans? Ha! Ok well onto the can post!

I am loving this idea. Forget your fancy vases for a minute and consider this. Vintage cans used to hold rustic flowers like spray roses (one of my faves). I found these pics for inspiration and then I found this awesome site that sells vintage cans SO cheap! 20 bucks for 6 of them! In my ideal world there would be a mix of sizes on every table from large to small with clusters of the same type of flower in each can. What do you think?

This is the site to order your very own vintage cans:

A little Martha for your morning

Morning all! By now you all know this bird kick I'm on. Well I was browsing around my buddy Martha's site and she featured this great inspirational photo using bird's nests. Now I've seen the bird's nest thing done before, but not like this. I love the mix of soft girl peony with the harder rustic nests. It's just fab. For you DIY people, I found this site featuring nests at good prices. Go to it!

Blushing brides

There is so something so wonderfully sweet about a pink wedding, complete with peonies, pink bridesmaid dresses and a pink cake! It's what we all pictured when we were little girls playing with Barbies and opening up their pretty pink boxes. I have been following a lovely bride and she just posted pictures of her wedding. She is stunning and has a great sense of fashion (not because she has my dress or anything....). I wanted to post her oh so pretty pictures. Lovely lovely MrsPinkPeony!

Got the blues...

Using blue flowers can be tough. Selection isn't always good and they often look purple. But I came across this knottie who used blue in such a chic way, I had to share it with all of you. I love that it is a vibrant blue paired with a vibrant green. I love that the girls are in black (putting those girls in blue would turn it into 80's). I love the setting. I love it all! And how can you not love the shoes? Great work Cnickler!

Carnations? Did she just say carnations??

Yes I did! Before you judge me, hear me out. Yes carnations are cheap and yes they can be hideous. BUT, try thinking about carnations in a new way. This is another one for you budget girls!
I recently had a client inquire about a low floral budget and how she can make it work. I suggested carnations. If you look at carnations as a sculptural element and less of a flower, you can do incredible, high impact things with them. One of my favorite ideas is to take huge floral foam balls and cover them with bright one color carnations and hang them from your venue (similar to the ones lining the ceremony space below). Suddenly they don't look like carnations, but they look like giant polka dots floating in the air. The key with this is to stick with one color and it can transform things. This is a time to think outside the box and talk to your florist about ideas like you see below. All from our friends over at theknot.
